World War II was the biggest war in the history of mankind. The biggest in the range of area affected, the biggest in the scope of operations, and the biggest in the numbers of dead and wounded. As a direct result of this war, over 50 million people were killed between 1939 and 1945.
World War II was also a multi-faceted war. It was teeming with an endless number of plans, directives, battles, heroics, brutalities, actions, counteractions, scenarios, and situations, all on a scale and level of complexity that still boggles the human mind. Many of these events are remembered.
A countless many others are not.
