In the early days of World War II, America suffered major setbacks as, time after time, the Japanese were able to break our codes. To end this cycle, the U.S. recruited Navajo Indians, who used their native tongue to transmit classified information over the airwaves. With no knowledge of Native American culture or vernacular, the Japanese were unable to obtain information crucial to winning the war.
